(GREENSBORO) -- It is summertime and many young people are experiencing their first taste of the working world. This may be the first time they have income taxes withheld. Mark Hanson with the IRS Greensboro office said people just working in the summer may not make enough money to require filing a tax return, but you should file a return anyway.
"If you don't file a tax return, even though you're not required to, if you're due a refund you can't get the refund unless you file, so if you have a job right now, you're having federal taxes withheld, make sure you look into filing your federal income tax next year, because might be due some money when you do that," said Hanson.
He advises people doing summer work to make sure their employer can provide them with paperwork, such as W-2 forms, for filing season. It is also important for that employer to know where to send that paperwork when the end of January rolls around next year.
