(RALEIGH) -- With the Labor Day holiday approaching, the North Carolina Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to be careful on the roads. The Patrol says there will be an increased presence of troopers on the interstates and major four lane highways looking for speeders and aggressive drivers.
Speed is the leading cause of traffic collisions and fatalities in the state. Last year in North Carolina, 10 people died in travel related crashes and 470 were injured over the Labor Day period.
“Speed is the number one factor in fatal collisions and our troopers will be looking for aggressive drivers, drunk drivers, and other violators while patrolling throughout the state during the holiday period,” said Col. Michael Gilchrist, Highway Patrol Commander.
A driver will get Trooper's attention if they flagrantly violate the motor vehicle laws including excessive speeding, following too closely, or erratic lane changes, among other safe movement violations.
