(RALEIGH) -- Advocates for victims of domestic violence marched through the downtown area of our state's Capital on Wednesday in honor of two women who recently lost their lives at the hands of their estranged husbands. The focus of the silent march was also to send a message to victims across the state.
Christina Brewer of Interact, an agency that helps abused women, cited the statistics on domestic violence murders in North Carolina. "The Attorney General released a report earlier this year that said 106 people were directly murdered related to domestic violence. So far this year, 45 women have lost their lives to the hands of domestic violence and that's from the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence," said Brewer.
She estimated that one out of four women will become victims of domestic violence during their lifetime.
