(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- The U.S. Senate has blocked legislation that would have established a $1 billion jobs program putting veterans back to work. The bill had strong support from Sen. Kay Hagan (D - NC).
"It would have invested in our veterans, eased their transition back to civilian life by increasing training and creating job opportunities, so I'm very disappointed that partisan politics got in the way of this," said Hagan.
Republicans said the spending would have violated limits that Congress agreed to last year. Democrats fell two votes shy of the 60-vote majority needed to waive the objection.
