(CARY) -- U.S. Sen. and former GOP presidential nominee John McCain wants North Carolina veterans to choose Mitt Romney as their next Commander-in-Chief. McCain, a decorated veteran himself, talked with former and current members of the military at a Romney rally in Cary on Tuesday.

He blamed President Obama for a failed foreign policy. "I believe that the national security policy, and the latest being the abject failure in Libya that resulted in the deaths of four brave Americans, including our Ambassador, is another example of failure on the part of this administration and the President, as commander-in-chief is responsible," said McCain.

McCain said a military publication shows that veterans favor Romney by a margin of 2-1. He believes the military community could tip the election in Romney's favor.
