(RALEIGH) -- The North Carolina Department of Public Safety is tackling the issue of school safety in the wake of recent Newtown school shooting.
Department of Public Safety Chief Operating Officer Frank Perry says officials are considering putting a sheriff's deputy at or near each school as a means of prevention.
"To be visible, and to send a message: We're here, we're close, and we might be at every school."
More internal locking and more internal procedures as to where children should go in the event something should happen is among the other issues that are being considered.
