The last two years have been tumultuous for UNC Chapel Hill and it's Chancellor Holden Thorp after the NCAA's discovery of improper benefits for student-athletes and academic misconduct.
Thorp, in an exclusive interview with Carolina Newsmakers in Raleigh, says the academic scandal was a situation of people with good intentions but bad choices.
"We have people who love students and want to help student so much that they do too much. And that was the case with Debbie Crowder and unfortunately the department chair knew about what she was doing and those are unprofessional things that happened academically."
Thorp says new athletic director Bubba Cunningham has dramatically changed the amount of vigilance that the university has when it comes to compliance around amateurism and extra benefits.
