CARY, – While traffic has returned to normal after the Cary Parkway was damaged by a March fire, the person charged with the blaze has a day in court. 17 year old Tristan Zammit has a court appearance in connection with the culvert fire that closed the road  between Two Creeks Road and Lake Pine Drive late last month.

A search warrant showed investigators believed Zammit, a student at Cary High School  was trying to burn his name into the side of the pipe, which was coated with flammable tar to prevent rust.

Zammit has been charged with a misdemeanor and his parents have said he regretted the incident. If convicted, he could face 60 days in jail and could have to pay some of the almost half a million dollar repair cost. He could also have to pay restitution, it cost also a half million dollars to make repairs.
