RALEIGH The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles will launch expanded hours at five additional driver license offices between Sylva and Shallotte starting Saturday, June 1. Expanded schedules will begin Saturday at the Sylva, Morganton, Troy, Smithfield and Shallotte offices. With their addition, 19 driver license offices statewide offer new schedules that include Saturday services.

“The new hours are continuing to build greater opportunities to improve customer service and accessibility to DMV offices for North Carolina drivers,” said Motor Vehicles Commissioner James L. Forte.

The five offices will be open the first Saturday each month from 8 a.m. to noon and closed the following Wednesday afternoon from noon to 5 p.m. On other weekdays, they will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Most regular driver license services, including regular road tests, will be offered on Saturdays, with the exception of CDL skills tests, medical re-exams and motorcycle skills tests.

NCDMV first began expanded hours on March 2.  Offices now open every Saturday are located in North Raleigh, North and West Charlotte, Greenville, South Fayetteville, South Durham, South Wilmington, Jacksonville, West Greensboro, Monroe and Asheville. Additional offices that open the first Saturday each month include Manteo, Ahoskie and Wilkesboro. DMV issued more than 4,000 licenses and ID cards on Saturdays during March, April and May.

DMV’s goal is to make sure that 85 percent of the state’s population is within 30 miles of an office offering expanded hours.
