(RALEIGH) - Standing water is a major concern after the heavy downpours that recently swept through the state. As North Carolinians dry out and clean up, health officials have some tips for eliminating water than can be a breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Stacy Shelp with the Orange County Health Department tells us where to look for trouble spots.

"Finding those empty flower pots, those wheel barrows, those children's inflatable pools etc. those are a great place for a mosquito to be laying their eggs and for their larva to develop."

Shelp says if you find water that can't be drained, you can use bacterial insecticides called donuts or dunks to kill mosquitoes.
