RALEIGH -- The government shutdown is now in week 2 and both parties appear entrenched for the long haul, meanwhile the trickle down is affecting those on an individual basis throughout the country hoping for a resolution. As we wait, we continue to hear one common theme from each party, it is time for the shutdown to end. While that seems to be encouraging to hear from both sides we are still no closer to its end.
North Carolina Republican Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, who represents the northwest portion of the Tar Heel state, says that Republicans are awaiting Democrats at the proverbial negotiating table. Foxx says, "To build a bi-partisan compromise, the Senate needs to come to the table. So we can work through our policy difference." Meanwhile, North Carolina 4th District Democratic Congressman David Price says we are continuing to dig a deeper hole. According to Price, "The shutdown needs to end, that really isn't negotiable, keeping the doors open. We need to end the shutdown, we need to pay the country's bills, and then we need to make up for lost time in negotiating a longer-term budget agreement for the next fiscal year." As the back-and-forth continues, the debt ceiling deadline is also quickly approaching October 17th.
