Gov. Pat McCrory's administration promises to fix North Carolina's struggling system for treating people with chronic mental illness and substance abuse issues.
State Health and Human Services Secretary Aldona Wos announced a new Crisis Solutions Coalition-- created primarily from the input from the director of the division of mental health. David Richard who traveled the state assessing the need.
At the top of the list was we have to address the issues around too many people showing up in emergency departments and the crisis that exists, and our crisis system across North Carolina."
The initiative brings together healthcare, government, law enforcement and community leaders to identify the most needed care to address the state's mentally ill as well as substance abusers.
