RALEIGH -- The hearing set for Friday in Winston-Salem is focusing on what documents and data state officials and legislators must turn over to voters, groups and the federal attorneys that sued to block several key provisions of the law.

The new law requires photo identification to vote in person and scales back early voting. Legislators served with subpoenas to produce documents say they have immunity and want the subpoenas suppressed. The plaintiffs also want a judge to compel state officials to provide more documents they previously requested. The documents will be used at a trial expected in 2015. Meanwhile those who sued want a judge this summer to stop some changes from being used in this November's elections.
