RALEIGH -- The Wake County School Board is preparing to publicly speak out against legislation that would remove teacher tenure in exchange for four-year contracts and pay bumps for each district's top 25 percent of teachers. Christine Kushner, the Chair of the Wake County Board, said she believes many more than a quarter of the teachers are outperforming their salary.
Kushner said, "We're concerned that teachers will have to waive their career status without having full information, and that we as a board are required to select 25 percent of our teachers to receive the bonus, where we feel we have far many teachers that are deserving of a raise."
The Durham School Board will vote Wednesday on joining Guilford County in the threatened lawsuit against the plan.
