DURHAM -- The Durham County School Board has voted to join a lawsuit planned by Guilford County against the North Carolina teacher tenure law. The law would eliminate tenure for teachers, which would take effect in 2018. In exchange for their career status, the new legislation would require each school district to select the top 25% of teachers and those teachers would receive a bonus. Governor Pat McCrory said he understand some concerns over the new law.

McCrory said, "I share some of the concerns expressed, based upon the implementation of the rule."

McCrory added that lawmakers may be able to look at some of these issues in the legislative short session.
