RALEIGH -- Controversial former North Carolina SBI agent Duane Deaver wants his job back. Deaver was fired in 2011 after his handling of dozens of cases involving blood stain evidence was questioned as part of a larger outside review of the SBI crime lab. The review flagged some 200 cases as improperly handled. Investigators said some of the most egregious violations were linked to Deaver. Greg McLeod, Director of the State Bureau of Investigation, says Deaver's firing was justified.
McLeod says, "That type of significant action by this judicial tribunal, I don't see how an agent can continue to work and perform the central functions of an SBI Agent."
Deaver is seeking reinstatement, back pay, and attorney's fees. The hearing is expected to go on for several days.
