RALEIGH -- The tax deadline of April 15th gave conservatives an opportunity to tout the tax reform that was passed through the General Assembly last year. Governor Pat McCrory says there was need for an alteration for the Tar Heel state to remain competitive.

Governor McCrory said, "We had a choice. Do we keep the same tax system, in which we were losing to Tennessee, South Carolina, and Virginia for new jobs? Or do we try to do something new and try to get different results?"

North Carolina jumped from 22nd to 6th on the American Legislative Exchange Council's evaluation of economic competitiveness. The law reduced income and corporate income tax rates and increased standard deductions starting with next year's tax returns.
