ZEBULON -- A Zebulon man is being charged with multiple offenses after holding a German woman against her will in his warehouse. Police Chief Tim Hayworth with the Zebulon Police Department says police found the woman after she sent an email to her estranged husband in Germany. Robert Whiteside faced a judge for the first time Tuesday, saying this is all a misunderstanding.
Whiteside said, "I'm not a troublemaker-type person. This is really a misunderstanding."
Whiteside has been charged with human trafficking and assault by strangulation, but he could face more charges. Police have information that the suspect dated women from other countries but no indications he held other women captive.
