RALEIGH -- Opponents of the program that allows low income parents to use state money to send their kids to private K-12 schools are applauding this week's ruling which, for now, has stopped the Opportunity Scholarship program.
Chris Fitzsimon with the progressive North Carolina Policy Watch says there are issues since some of the schools where the money would go do not have proper credentials.
"NC policy watch has done some reporting. Some of these schools, there's one in Davidson county that has three students and one teachers and operates out of an annex of somebody's house. It is in effect a home school."
Families in the application pool identified which private schools they wanted to attend, with religious schools being among the top options.
