RALEIGH -- The 2014 campaign is down to the final hours. And, in the North Carolina Senate race, down to the final campaign ads. This year was a record breaker when it comes to spending in the race between Republican Thom Tillis and Democrat Kay Hagan. N.C. State University Political Science Professor Andy Taylor says the Tar Heel State could be running against the tide.

Taylor said, "I think it's going to be very, very, very close. But it is interesting that where in places like Arkansas, Louisiana, Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, we've seen the break perceptively in favor of the Republicans, but it hasn't happened in North Carolina."

Most polls have shown the race as being to close to call, with Hagan slightly ahead in many cases. Taylor says it is still not clear how the election will turn out.
