RALEIGH – Google Fiber is coming to North Carolina.  Governor Pat McCrory, alongside Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane, Durham Mayor Bill Bell and director of Google Fiber Michael Slinger announced that Google Fiber is coming to the Triangle and Charlotte metropolitan areas. Also in attendance were officials from Google Fiber expansion cities of Carrboro, Cary, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Garner and Morrisville.

“Improving broadband capabilities across North Carolina continues to be a priority for our administration,” said Governor McCrory in statements issued in a press release.  “Google Fiber will not only increase access, but increase speed and reliability in the Triangle and Charlotte metropolitan areas.”

Google Fiber is an Internet and TV service that provides Internet speeds up to one gigabit per second — that's 1,000 Megabits per second, compared to the average Internet speed in America today of 11.5 Mbps — along with hundreds of HD TV channels. Google Fiber is currently available in Kansas City, Kansas, Kansas City, Missouri, Provo, Utah, and Austin, Texas. For more information about this announcement, visit the Google Fiber website.
