GOLDSBORO -- Kenneth Morgan Stancil III wanted in the shooting death of Wayne Community College employee Ron Lane is now in custody after being arrested.

Authorities say he was taken into custody early Tuesday morning shortly after 1:00 a.m  Tuesday. in Florida. Stancil was found sleeping on the beach in Daytona City where he was approached by officers with the Volusia County Beach Patrol for violating the city’s no sleeping on the beach ordinance.

Stancil was armed with a knife and was detained for further identification. He gave the officers his name and was taken into custody without incident. Stancil is currently being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail located in Daytona Beach, Florida without privilege of bond. The Goldsboro Police Department and the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office will now be working with the Volusia County Florida Prosecutor’s Office in order to extradite Mr. Stancil back to Wayne County.

Authorities say Monday’s campus shooting at Wayne Community College was not a random act, instead it was isolated. There are now reports the gunman and his victim knew each other. There are also reports Stancil is a white supremacist. New information has surfaced that indicates that Lane had fired Stancil from his former job at the print shop, and that Lane knew Stancil’s family.

Stancil, an Eagle Scout graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 2013.
