CHAPEL HILL - A series of drunken texts has caused the University of Minnesota athletic director, with strong North Carolina ties,  to step down from his job. University President Eric Kaler says Norwood Teague admitted he drank too much and sent "inappropriate texts" to colleagues.

"Norwood has acknowledged his inappropriate behavior and expressed remorse for his actions."

Teague, a Raleigh native and graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, was associate athletics director at UNC from 2002 to 2005.
