RALEIGH -- During a ceremony at the State Capitol, Military Affairs Advisor Cornell Wilson presented a proclamation on behalf of Governor Pat McCrory proclaiming September 12, 2015 as Tunnel to Towers Day in North Carolina.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation seeks to support first responders and veterans and will host a 5K Run & Walk on September 12 in the Research Triangle Park. “September 11, 2001 was a poignant reminder that there are heroes all around us in our first responders and military,” said Governor McCrory. “We must continue to do all we can to honor those lost on 9/11, as well as protect those that protect us. I’m honored to recognize all organizations dedicated to caring for our first responders.” Also attending the ceremony were representatives from Tunnel to Towers, Phillip Batten on behalf of the North Carolina Veteran Affairs, first responders, military members and veterans, and representatives from other related organizations.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was established to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. The foundation honors our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country. On Saturday September 12, 2015, The Triangle Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk will be from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM in the Research Triangle Park
