Accused Colorado Clinic Shooter Lived in NC

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — A man who lived in Black Mountain until 2014 has been identified as the person charged with the Planned Parenthood clinic shooting in Colorado that left three people, including a police officer dead.

Police identified him as Robert Lewis Dear, 57.  Records show Dear lived in Black Mountain, NC through 2014. Prior to that, he lived in South Carolina.

No other details about Dear were immediately available, including whether he had any connection to Planned Parenthood.

Police were involved in the standoff in Colorado Springs, Colorado Friday that lasted some five hours.  Nine people were taken to the hospital and three later died.

Among those killed was Garrett Swasey, 44, a police officer at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Swasey was one of the first officers to respond to the call of an active shooter, which is about 10 minutes from the school.
