RALEIGH, NC - A State Trooper is being credited with arresting a murder suspect wanted in the death of a Durham Store Clerk on April 27, 2016.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2016, a trooper was on patrol when he observed a Ford passenger vehicle run a stop light on C Street in Butner. As the trooper initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle slowed and then sped off. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Greensboro. After a short pursuit, the vehicle eventually crashed at the intersection on Veasay Road and Old Oxford Highway and the driver fled on foot.

After an extensive search with assistance of a local law enforcement canine, the search was eventually called off.  Two troopers remained in the area for a short period of time and were traveling back towards Durham when they encountered the driver walking along Old Oxford Highway. At that point, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

The driver, who originally provided a false name, was later identified as Timothy Moore, 31, of 1214 Granby Street, Durham. Moore was wanted for the murder of store clerk and seriously injuring another store employee during a robbery that occurred on the evening of Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Fast Food Mart located at 2106 Broad Street, Durham. When Durham officers arrived, they located 57-year old, Nafez Jalal of Durham dead inside the store from an apparent gunshot wound. The other victim, 48-year old Hassan Joalale of Durham, had a gunshot wound to his leg.

Moore was processed at the Granville County Detention Center and will have his first court appearance on Monday, May 16.
