The Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh went on lockdown Saturday afternoon.

Police were working to secure the area, after witnesses reported hearing gunshots, at around 2:30 P.M.

Police said they would not letting anyone in or out of the mall.  The sounds were coming from the food court area.

A witness, Lauren Baker says she heard what she thought were gunshots and was in the middle of the chaos afterwards as people ran out of the building.

“We just heard the gunshots and everyone ran,” said Baker.

Another witness who owns a store in the mall says he saw two men arguing in the food court, and saw one pull out a gun.  He says he heard several shots.

Raleigh Police Chief Cassandra Deck Brown said there were at least 8 people emergency workers brought to hospitals with injuries.  However, they were not gunshot injuries; she and Wake County EMS Director Jeff Hammerstein says the patients appeared to have suffered minor injuries in the evacuation of the mall.

Brown says the search for possible suspects is underway as the investigation continues.
