(CHARLOTTE) -- The Cato Corporation reported its same-store sales for the May decreased 3 percent.  The Charlotte-based discount women's apparel retailer reported overall May sale of $80.7 million, unchanged from May of 2010.

"May same-store sales were below expectations and we remain cautious given the continuing economic uncertainty," said John Cato, the Company's Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer.

The Company operates 1,284 stores in 31 states.
