(RALEIGH) -- Peach growers and those who love consuming the sweet fruit should be happy this year. The peach season in the Tar Heel State is off to one of its stronger starts. Growers credit the unusually warm winter and plentiful spring rains for the abundant crop.
“North Carolina growers produce 70 varieties, each with their own unique flavor,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler.
Several special events are planning across North Carolina to mark the peak of the peach season. Peach Days are set for July 12 at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh and on July 20 at the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market in Colfax. The Peach Festival is also on tap July 21 in Candor.
Peach season in North Carolina typically runs from June to August.
