Duke Energy scrambles to send out reassurances |

(RALEIGH) -- As an investigation into moves made by Duke Energy following a merger with Progress Energy continues, Duke officials are reaffirming their commitment to employees and customers. The nation's largest utility said in a press release on Wednesday that it will keep 1,000 to 1,300 jobs in Raleigh. The company also said it will offer enhanced career development opportunities for all of its employees.
“As we continue to combine our companies, we maintain our focus on serving our customers across the state,” said Brett Carter, president of Duke Energy North Carolina. “At the same time, we are making commitments regarding our employees, our operations and our communities.”
Duke Energy also said that it is pledging $650 million in fuel-related cost savings. This and expect additional operational efficiencies would be passed along to customers over time, according the the press release.
“We are giving approximately $16.5 million annually in community support and charitable contributions in North Carolina for at least the next four years,” said Carter. “In addition, we are investing approximately $15 million over the next year in workforce development and low-income energy assistance.”
