(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- In his first reaction to President Obama's State of the Union address, North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr said the president's positive message seemed to him to overlook the issues that face the country. Burr cited the budget deficit.
"The CBO (Congressional Budget Office) announces that this year's debt is projected to be $1.5 trillion, now, the administration's projection of debt this year was $1.1 trillion. This is a miss of $400 billion," said Burr.
Burr also said the president has also gotten guidance from his own budget commission, co-chaired by former UNC system president Erskine Bowles, on how to address the country's growing debt. He said not enough about this commission's work was included in the address.
