(ASHEVILLE) -- The North Carolina legislature could soon pass a bill that would stand against healthcare reform. So far, the support for the bill has been almost completely from the Republicans.
Republican Representative Tim Moffitt says the federal bill infringes on the state's sovereignty. He also says states should be able to opt out of the reform, since several large companies and unions have been granted exemptions.
Part of the bill would exempt North Carolinians from a rule that everyone has to have health insurance by 2014. The other part would require Attorney General Roy Cooper to add the state to the list of those challenging the reform in court.
Democratic Representative Ray Rapp of Madison County says he's against joining the lawsuit because it will cost the state an estimated $344,000.
