(GLENDALE SPRINGS) -- The Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League wants to halt biomass energy incinerators in the southeast. Spokesman Louis Zeller said their findings show that biomass fuel as an energy source is not carbon neutral.
"We find that there are impossible ambiguities that stem from the concept of making some carbon good and labeling other carbon bad. They both affect the planet in the same way," said Zeller.
The League maintains that Global Warming is already harming communities in the Southeast and that carbon dioxide remains in the air for centuries, regardless of whether it is released from fossil fuel or biomass. In early spring, the League and its more than 50 chapters in the Southeast will host "Ban the Burn", an anti-biomass road show.
