(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- U.S. Senator Kay Hagan said she wants to do something to help National Guard and Reserve members find work. She wants to expand a tax credit that would give small businesses a credit of up to $4,000 for each military veteran they hire, including members of the National Guard or Reserve.
"Twenty-one percent of the National Guard and Reserve are unemployed, so I think that by adding that component to this bill that's already in law we can add these individuals. I think it has a very good chance of passing," said Hagan.
Hagan, a Democrat is offering the bill jointly with Republican Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts.
