(RALEIGH) -- The former Raleigh doctor accused in the death of a ballet dancer had a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit on the night of the deadly crash. Raymond Cook is charged with 2nd-degree murder in the death of Elena Shapiro of Winston-Salem.
Emergency room doctor Herbert Myles said his test found Cook's BAC level at .24. The legal threshold is .08 in North Carolina. That result was even higher than the .19 police got when they tested Cook after the crash. Prosecutors say this deadly incident was not the first time Cook has abused alcohol. The 2nd-degree charge means that prosecutors must prove that there was drive dangerously knowing that there was a high possibility of injury.
