(RALEIGH) -- The Cellular Telephone and Internet Association has joined over 100 Congressional members in calling for a five-year freeze for North Carolina Wireless customers that pay over 14 percent in taxes and fees.
Spokesman John Walls says the Wireless Tax Fairness Act has bipartisan support. He calls it a good first step.
North Carolina's cell service taxes are nearly double the rate for other taxable goods or services. Wireless customers in 47 states pay taxes and fees that exceed the general rate of other taxable goods and services.
The bill was introduced in both the US House and Senate earlier this week.
