(HIGH POINT) -- The identity of one of the two people killed when a small plane crashed in High Point early Wednesday evening has been released. Physician Thomas Littlejohn III of Winston-Salem was a passenger on the plane. As of late Thursday morning the identity of the pilot had not been released.

Authorities say the plane was headed to Winston-Salem from Wilmington when it diverted to Greensboro because of bad weather. High Point Police Capt. Tom Henson said officers are maintaining a secure area around the crash site. "We're maintaining the site until the NTSB can get here and conduct their investigation to determine what the cause is," said Henson.

The aircraft went down in a High Point neighborhood, clipped one house before hitting another directly causing a fire. The occupants of the home that took a direct hit managed to get out unharmed.
