(RALEIGH) -- If you think a record number of tornados have hit North Carolina this year,  you are right. National Weather Service Meteorologist Jeff Orrock has been compiling the data.

"We've had 41 tornadoes that we've been able to confirm, actually touch down in our state, since the first of the year and most of those really occurred in March and April.  Of course, April 16th being the large outbreak where we had at least 30 tornadoes touch down and we may even find another couple of tornadoes as we continue to kind of comb through all of the information," said Orrock.

North Carolina averages 19 tornadoes a year.
