(RALEIGH) -- House lawmakers gave final approval to the conference report on the half-billion-dollar State Health Plan fix. However, the proposal still includes a provision that would charge state employees a monthly premium, something Gov. Beverly Perdue cited as a reason for vetoing a similar bill.
Perdue spokeswoman Chrissy Pearson would not say what decision Perdue would make on the Health Plan bill. "Whenever I spoke to the governor about this particular bill and what action she's going to take on it, it was hard to get an answer out of her because she was so angry at the numbers from the Senate that she had just seen that they doubled the cut that she made to public schools, nearly $1 billion in cuts to public schools," said Pearson. The Senate goals would cut K-12 spending by about $800 million, roughly about $100 million more than the House budget.
As far as the governor taking action on the State Health Plan bill, Pearson said she doesn't believe Perdue will delay in making a decision. Pearson stopped short of saying whether the governor will veto or sign the health plan bill.
