(WASHINGTON, DC) -- Senator Kay Hagan says she wants the Senate to back legislation she's put forward to help turn around low-performing schools. She's calling it the School Turnaround And Rewards (or STAR) Act.
Hagan says making sure schools perform at a high rate should be of major importance to the nation. "We are all concerned about jobs, jobs, jobs right now. And in order to have those jobs, we need to have an educated workforce," she said. "And that is why we cannot wait another year. A year in the life of a child cannot be replicated."
The act will put in place so-called "intervention models" that will begin the process of significant change in school operations.
