(CHARLOTTE) -- AAA Carolinas is forecasting a slight increase in Memorial Day travel over last year. Estimates are that 865,000 North Carolinians will take a trip of 50 miles or more during the three day holiday weekend.
The prediction come just as gas price finally start moving in a downward direction. Brendan Byrnes with the motor club said gas prices do vary depending on where you are.
"The current average in North Carolina is $3.71 for a gallon of regular unleaded. The least expensive in the state is High Point at $3.64 as an average. I've definitely heard reports gas stations as $3.49," said Byrnes.
He added that he expects the price of gas to drop even more next week.
