(RALEIGH) -- Governor Bev Perdue isn't becoming more popular among North Carolina voters, but her reelection chances are improving. That's according to Tom Jensen of Public Policy Polling, who says that Perdue's approval numbers are still low, but in a head to head matchup with likely challenger Pat McCrory, Perdue trails by just seven points.
"I think what that's a reflection of is that even though voters aren't necessarily getting more warm towards Perdue personally, they really don't like what they're seeing from the Republicans in the legislature," Jensen said.
Jensen pointed out that earlier polls showed Pat McCrory with a 14-point edge over the governor.
Perdue's approval rating is currently at 35 percent.
