(RALEIGH) -- The above normal heat continues for North Carolina. A string of 80 and 90 plus degree days overall dry conditions have dominated the weather picture for the last several days.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Katie Roussey said the recent weather is not unusual for this time of year. "We just happen to be in a pattern where a ridge of high pressure is over us and this happened last year, so it's really not that unusual.  We are running 10 degrees above normal temperatures, but it's not completely out of the question," said Roussey.

The good news, according to Roussey, is that the Tar Heel State could get see slightly cooler conditions and a better chance of rain by the weekend. She cautioned that this is still several days away, so the forecast could still change.
