(RALEIGH) -- The eastern half of North Carolina is under a heat advisory Friday.  NCNN meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said Friday and Saturday are going to be brutally across much of the state.

"Expecting, especially in entral North Carolina, for temperatures to climb up to 103/104, possibly even 105 for both today and tomorrow.  Once you get to the coast if you're right along the beaches, especially the Outer Banks, we should have cooler temperatures and then in the western piedmont and the mountains, we should be out of the danger zone there," said Gardner.

The heat index in some parts of central North Carolina on Friday could reach 110 degrees.  Gardner said a cold front is bringing some cooler air but that won't come until Sunday.
