(RALEIGH) -- The annual sales tax free weekend gets underway on Friday in North Carolina. Starting at 12:01 a.m., and going through Sunday, consumers will not have to pay sales tax on things like school supplies, clothing and sports and recreational items.

Beth Stevenson of the North Carolina Dept. of Revenue said there are not many changes from what people are used to.  "This is the 11th year that the tax free holiday weekend has happened here in North Carolina.  It does work just like it has in the past, so no new changes for people who are use it," said Stevenson.

There are some specific restriction on what is eligible for the the sales tax exemption.  Stevenson encourages people to get more information, including a complete list of the items that are tax exempt, at the State Dept. of Revenue's website at http://www.dornc.com/.
