(RALEIGH) -- With the recent roller coaster ride on Wall Street and global markets and a deal raising the debt ceiling takes hold, U.S. Sen. Richard Burr said there is still much more work to be done.
"We need to reform our tax code. We need to reform the budget process in Washington. We need to have an honest conversation with the American people about what the real needs are for a smaller, less expensive federal government," said Burr. He added that he hopes the work of a bipartisan "super-committee" will spark some serious discussion on how to get the national economy consistently moving in the right direction. Burr said he will be watching to see whether the Democrats and Republicans on the committee will put politics aside for the good of the country.
