(RALEIGH) -- There is a better chance today that Hurricane Irene could have a significant impact on North Carolina. North Carolina News Network Meteorologist Mike Moss said there is a greater likelihood Irene could make landfall between the northern South Carolina coast to central North Carolina coast sometime on Saturday.
"Of course, it is important to realize that we're still four days out. It's too soon to nail down real specific impacts and we have to remember that the average error of those forecast positions are about 200 miles when you get four days out and that can make a big difference in what kind of impacts we see across North Carolina," said Moss.
The latest tracking information on Irene late Tuesday morning actually moved the storm more to the east as it tracks up the east coast. This would increase the chances of landfall for North Carolina's central coast.
The National Hurricane Center still expects Irene to become a deadly and powerful Category 4 hurricane before the end of the week.
