(CHARLOTTE) -- Triple A Carolina's Motor Club is out with its annual Labor Day travel forecast. Officials said around 870,000 North Carolinians will take a trip of 50 miles or more during the three day holiday which begins Friday. This is by about 9,000 when compared to Labor Day 2010.
Spokesman Tom Crosby said he thinks last weekend's hurricane that struck the Outer Banks will have little effect on holiday plans. Crosby added that those who have made reservations there will likely keep them.
Other likely holiday destinations over the long holiday weekend are Charleston and Myrtle Beach, Asheville and Washington D.C., according to Crosby. Across North Carolina, gas prices are expected to average $3.60 a gallon for the holiday.
