(CHAPEL HILL) -- UNC athletic officials have responded to the NCAA notice of allegations surrounding the school's football program. The school has announced self-imposed sanctions.
The self-imposed punishment includes giving up a total of 16 victories in the 2008 and 2009 football seasons, paying a $50,000 fine, giving up nine scholarships over three years and two years of probation. Athletics Director Dick Baddour said a post season ban will not be imposed.
"Based on our review of other cases conducted by the NCAA also based on the advice of outside council we decided that was not an appropriate self-imposed penalty," said Baddour.
Baddour and UNC-Chapel Hill chancellor Holden Thorp will go to Indianapolis in October to appear before the NCAA committee on infractions to see if additional penalties will be levied.
