(ELON) -- North Carolinians have mixed feelings about President Obama’s jobs proposal, according to a new Elon University Poll. Thirty-six percent of those surveyed said they wanted their member of Congress to vote against the president’s jobs bills, compared to 35 percent who favored the plan.
"I think it's a really important issue for President Obama because it's not just a proposal that could bring jobs to the state, but it's also kind of his stump speech that he's going to have to go out and try to convince people that he deserves another four years in office," said Elon Poll Director Mileah Kromer.
The poll also found that 51 percent of North Carolinians disapprove of the way Obama is handling his job as president. "And that essentially isn't a good number because things are not great in the state and so we'd like to see economic policies that are actually growing jobs and making the economy better."
